Turning Heads Linkup – Soft Surroundings Boho Maxi Dress – Late Summer

Morning friends! How is your week going? I’m going to be sharing some Late Summer fashions from Soft Surroundings and this dress caught my eye from the start. Anyone else for Boho vibes? Yesterday I wore Boho, so it’s a week of boho fashion’s friends! The Movies- We went to see the movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” over the weekend, and speaking of boho, it was about a time when counter culture reared it’s head, and what if Charles Manson and his hippie groupies took another path instead of Sharon Tate’s home the evening in 1969. I don’t want to share any spoilers, but I was quite amused, as the theatre in the afternoon was quite quiet, and the couple in front of us was in their 20s. As we got in the elevator, the guy said he wasn’t quite sure what the movie was about, didn’t know what he just saw. I explained to him about Charles Manson’s hippie followers had murdered Sharon Tate and the people in the house in the Hollywood hills in 1969. I explained why the movie’s circumstances would have changed American History. He looked at me and smiled while nodding his head […]

Caite and Kyla Colorful Tunic for Summer into Fall

Morning friends! How was your weekend? I’m sharing my last piece I received from Caite and Kyla. If you missed my posts on this company, and their colorful clothing, read THIS POST and THIS POST. I know, I know. You’ve got the Summertime Blues.. Am I right? It seemed that not long ago Summer just started, and now we look forward to Fall, but it’s still here in the South. The calendar will soon show September, but the temps here will still be 90 degrees or so. In the meantime, we can fantasize about all things booties, woolie coats, and beautiful fabrics, keeping in mind that some of the things we wear will transition nicely to the new season. My Outfit I chose this tunic as I loved the rich colors and print. I could see this being worn throughout the year and transitioning nicely to fall. It still was mighty hot here in the Lake Norman area as of late. Humidity can make it challenging for photos! I paired this beautiful lightweight tunic with a pair of tan jeans from Royalty for Me and gold/tan espadrilles I wear often. The similar shoe shade to the jeans makes the […]

August Favorites

Morning friends! I am thinking of a once a month feature, sharing with you what my favorite things of the month are. Since it is August, ( can you believe it? Why doesn’t Jan- Feb go as fast?) I thought I would share with you some favorites of mine this month. August Favorites Dining al fresco– I will sweat it out if it means sitting outside and dining. I will go as long as possible in order to enjoy the outdoors! Here in NC, we could sit outside until the end of October, as that is only when it gets colder.  To me, there is nothing like enjoying company while being outside. .. Haircare products– I am trying Bumble and Bumble products and wanted to try the Thickening Line.  I know it is used in blowouts and in many professional salons. I have been enjoying some Youtube videos on the products they use as well. I chose to buy one product at a time to see how I like it. The first I purchased was the Thickening Spray. Verdict- Love. When I go out I use hot rollers as they add body to my hair, this additional spray adds […]

Turning Heads Linkup – Palm Dress and Straw Clutch for Summer

Hi friends! Today I am wearing one of my favorite dresses from my closet, a palm green dress that reminds me of our trip to Savannah a few years ago, as I bought it in a boutique there. The Outfit and More I just love palm prints and fruity cocktails both of which reminds me of summer, or that tropical local I wish to visit. On that note, has anyone seen House Hunters Carribean? I used to watch House Hunters on HGTV often before we bought a house, and I came across this the other day. A couple moving to Belize from Atlanta, starting a new life. It’s fun to watch! Back to the dress. I loved the vibrant print and the no-iron capability with this dress. I’ve packed it on vacation and love to pair it with straw or rattan accessories and espadrilles. Here I am wearing platform tan espadrilles by Steve Madden, I bought last year on DSW. One of my favorite straw clutches from Mango changes up the look from the round rattan bag I have been carrying often. On this afternoon, puppies were with us, as we got a new/used Lexus in Bamboo Pearl. The sound […]

How One Accessory Can Amplify a Look

Morning friends! I am wearing my ray of sunshine maxi dress. Well, that is what I call it, as I just love the warm mustard yellow tone of the dress. You know I like my accessories and adding one special piece to an outfit, can certainly amplify the look. Happenings We do like to experiment with locations when taking photoshoots, and you start to get a feel for the best lighting. I was in the shade here, by a large tree on our nature trail, but the light was a bit too dark near my face. We bought reflectors, now if only I could find an assistant to hold them up to my face while hubby takes photos. Hmm. First world problems eh? Anyhow, we have been looking at cars/SUVs as the air conditioner decided to go kaput on our Lexus. Granted it is nearly 200, 000 miles on it, and we have dumped moola into the air conditioning several times, it was time to send it to the auto graveyard! So, in the process of looking for cars, we have had to drive ours around to look at others. Boy, talk about a built-in sauna! I had sweat stains […]

5 Ways to Handle Challenges With Your Health

Happy Friday friends! I wrote this post today, in part, to strengthen my thoughts about the challenges we can face with our health.  Presently, I am trying to titrate down and off a medication, I wasn’t sure was helping me.  This is challenging as I am experiencing many withdrawal symptoms and am questioning if it is something I should continue to do. What helps me during these times? Do I want to give up immediately because the pain is too great? Well, yes! That is the honest truth, sometimes! But having this condition, EDS, has taught me ways to handle some of the challenges I am facing. One being this very disease. I would love to open the soft blue curtains in the morning and just start singing-“Oh What a Beautiful Morning, Oh What a Beautiful Day!” and perhaps this is what I need to do to get me in the right frame of mind for the day. Instead, my internal voice is saying, ” Every part of my body aches…. What will I feel like when I am 80? ” Why does it feel like someone took a hammer to my arm? Yes, my hubby loves the visuals […]

Turning Heads Linkup- Boho Style with Love Kyla Kimono /turning-heads-linkup-boho-style-with-love-kyla-kimono/ /turning-heads-linkup-boho-style-with-love-kyla-kimono/#comments Tue, 06 Aug 2019 05:00:48 +0000 /?p=32900
Turning Heads Linkup- Boho Style with Love Kyla Kimono

hi friends! Today I am sharing my second look under the Caite brand. They sent me three items to review and this embroidered kimono was one of them. If you missed yesterday’s colorful tunic, click HERE. Love Kyla This is one of 3 labels under the Caite brand. Love Kyla has tops, kimonos, dresses and more and is made for ladies who love unique pieces that are made with quality in mind. This Myra kimono caught my eye with the detailed embroidery, stitching and of course the rustic colors. Tans, rusts, purples, are just part of the color scheme. The flowy bohemian style is indicative of this brand, and the silky material feels as light as a feather. It is a style that is “fuller than expected” with a more billowy style than fitted. But that is the kimono style here. I am wearing a Small, as by the size chart, but could have also worn the XS. I didn’t want the sleeves to be too short though. I wore a rust cotton tank under my new kimono and chose white shorts to keep the focus on the kimono. Hmmm, see a theme? Yesterday I wore the print with […]

Bright Colored Tunic for Summer by Caite /bright-colored-tunic-for-summer-by-caite/ /bright-colored-tunic-for-summer-by-caite/#comments Mon, 05 Aug 2019 05:00:01 +0000 /?p=32878
Bright Colored Tunic for Summer by Caite

Happy Monday friends! I thought I would feature some colorful and beautifully embroidered prints this week. This tunic, by Caite, has such summery bright colors, orange, magenta and that I wanted to feature it with white to let the tunic take center stage. Caite I loved this, on their website, the essence of CAITE clothing—”a free spirit, lover of art, travel and adventure, and a showstopper when entering a room.” The sunshine colors caught my eye as did the pattern on this beautiful poly silk tunic. The embroidery in a blue/grey also adds to the intricacy of the piece. I love the silky feel against my skin and the lightness of the style.  From the website: “Our clothing is handcrafted in India under fair and ethical working conditions, and we take great pride in the talent of these artisans to create one-of-a-kind prints, exquisite embroideries, and stunning pieces. Our print selection and embroideries are all originals created by artists around the world, solely for our brands and can be found only in our archives.” Nothing complicated about styling this piece though! I initially was thinking denim shorts and gladiator type sandals, because of the flowy material and boho vibe. […]

Beauty Products I am Loving This Summer

Happy Friday! Today I thought I would talk about some of my favorite beauty products. You know, the glitz, the glamour. It beats talking about the difficult time I have been having titrating off one of my medications. The drug companies don’t make dosages small enough to titrate, so you end up cutting everything in 4ths or having to go to a liquid solution. Even with going from 12.5 mg to 10, I have had severe headaches, sleepless nights, sweating, increased muscle pain and anxiety. But I am going to continue.. we will see. Let’s discuss something more fun, like beauty products and hair care! I What do you say? Remington Hot Rollers I had Remington curlers for years, but recently I saw them spark and it was “bye-bye” for that particular set. I love the brand, and wanted various sizes of rollers, to create different curls. I have a lot of hair, but it is fine. This set has been great, and I bought it from Amazon, for $20! The curls are just as good as my last set that ran double. I will do my makeup while the curls are in, so time is about the same if […]

Turning Heads Linkup – A Favorite Summer Maxi Dress

Hello friends! I just had my niece over for 3 days and she just loves to be a part of photoshoots.  So, I am here today back in the swing of things after our amazing beach vacation to the Outer Banks. If you missed the posts, read Part 1 HERE, and Part 2 HERE. Today, just as yesterday, I have my niece joining in the blogging fun, as she loves fashion too!  She is a fun, spirited girl who enjoys fashion and having fun.  She’s got the thickest head of beachy blonde hair, and is fond of dresses too, like her Aunt Jess. Behind us in the above picture are kayaks we think we can rent, on the lake. I have really wanted to try it on still water, so we’ll see if that is something I can do. We went to a favorite area of ours Latta Plantation for the photoshoot. It is on Lake Norman, and full of woods and trails, along with history. If you missed us doing a photo shoot yesterday, at Turtle Bay, have a read, here – Wearing a Romper at 51 and My Fashionable Niece. My Maxi dress When I am not […]
